The Botswana Bowling Association (BBA) has announced a strong squad to represent the country at the World Bowls Championships

The Botswana Bowling Association (BBA) has announced a strong squad to represent the country at the World Bowls Championships and the African States competition, as Calistus Kolantsho reports for Mmegi Online.

BBA spokesperson, John Gaborutwe said the team is already in camp preparing for the two tournaments. The 2012 World Bowls Championships will be held in Lockleys, Australia, from November 24 to December 9, while Durban, South Africa, will host the July 27-August 5 African States tournament.

Teams that finished 12th and below in the 2008 edition have automatically qualified for this year's competition. "The remaining 12 countries qualify from the Atlantic Championships 2009, African States Tournament 2009 and the Asia/Pacific Championships 2009. Botswana qualified alongside South Africa and Namibia at the African States tournament held in Swaziland in 2009," Gaborutwe said.

The teams trained in Francistown last weekend with South African coaches, John and Elthier Page taking the players through their paces.  He said that emphasis was more on the physical, technical, tactical and psychological preparations. He noted that during physical preparation, attention was given to developing endurance, speed and consistency of skills. He explained that the coaches also covered aspects of nutrition, sleeping patterns, rest and pre-match warm up routines.
