Lockleys Bowling Club was founded in 1913. The greens were then at Cross Street, but to meet increased membership the move to the current location (46 Rutland Avenue, Lockleys, South Australia 5032) was completed in 1964.

The wonderful layout of the clubhouse and the four greens influenced the club being chosen as the venue for two Jack High singles championships in the 1980s, with winners being well known NSW bowlers Ken Williams and Ian Schuback. This led ten years later to selection as the venue for the World Bowls Championship of 1996. The club has been further recognised by being invited to be the main venue for the World Bowls Championships in 2012

The Holdfast Bay Bowling Club is poised to become the envy of the world.

Having already hosted the 2010 Australian Sides Championships, widely recognised as one of the nation’s marquee events, over the next two years, the beachside club will co-host three of the game’s biggest lawn bowls tournaments, culminating with the sport’s showpiece event in 2012 when it stages the World Championships.

According to Bowls SA general manager Ben Scales, Holdfast Bay is poised to put its name on the map.

"Holdfast Bay will do a great job hosting these events," Mr Scales said.

"It’s a great venue, which is ideally situated next to Adelaide’s premier beach and will do a fine job hosting the World Championships in 2012.”
